Are you ready for some Shakespeare?
Whether you didn't get enough of the Bard during this year's festival or are looking for something to do on Sundays, we have you covered.
Inspired by Bard-a-Thons and other "Complete the Canon" festivities held throughout the world, we decided to partner with the Richmond Shakespeare Festival and are going to be co-hosting "Shakespeare Sundays".
Basically, the idea is to spend one afternoon a week reading through the complete plays of William Shakespeare, one play at a time. This means that we'll finish in 9 1/2 months, which is May 17th, if all goes well. Since the works are plays, and thus meant to be performed and heard rather than read, the event is designed around doing live-readings.
You don't have to be an actor to join (I'm not), as the readings are meant to be cold readings. No preparation, no pre-reading classes, just reading Shakespeare and trying to make sense of the plays in the course of an afternoon. Local scholars, directors, and enthusiasts will join us as well, in order to lead discussions and help with our understanding of the works.
